The Berry Bracket: Every Berry Nicotine Pouch We Stock, Ranked

We've covered grape and cherry, and since then the flavor people keep asking us about is berry. That makes sense in late July, when berries are everywhere. Berry is also the fruit we carry the most of: five cans from four brands, and no two of them go after the same kind of berry.

The cans we compared

From lightest to strongest: ZYN Red Berry Fizz (sold out, notify me) at 6, 9 or 11 mg, VELO Berry Forest at 10, ZYN Blueberry Mint at 11, Iceberg Sour Berries at around 12, and Pablo Exclusive Blue Raspberry at 30. The black cherry cans already have their own post, so they're not in this one. Neither is Strawberry Cheesecake. It tastes more like dessert than berry, so it's in our roundup of sweet flavors instead.

ZYN Red Berry Fizz

Red Berry Fizz is strawberry, raspberry and cranberry over a soda-style fizz. The cranberry's tartness is the only thing keeping a triple-berry blend this sweet from turning syrupy. It's almost a drink flavor, and it would fit just as well in our post on pouches that taste like drinks. The 6 mg is the easiest berry in the store for an adult who's still working out what strength suits them (our strength guide helps with that), and the 11 mg means it isn't only a starter can.

ZYN Blueberry Mint

Blueberry up front, raspberry behind it, and a cool finish that stops short of real menthol. This is the berry for mint people who say they don't like fruit. It sits so evenly between the two that we tag it as both in the store. If our mint guide helped you pick a favorite mint, this is the fruit can to try first. At 11 mg, it's right in the range we made the case for in last month's post on medium strengths.

VELO Berry Forest

Berry Forest tastes like dark berries: blueberry first, then raspberry and blackberry, with a clean menthol cool at the end. It's the most complete flavor of the five. The fruit has real depth instead of tasting like candy, and the cold finish doesn't drown it out. VELO's 10 mg cans are its everyday strength, and Berry Forest is the best fruit flavor VELO makes at 10. It's my pick for the best berry overall, which is why it's the can in the photo at the top of this post.

Iceberg Sour Berries

This one is tart barberry and blackcurrant, which is a very Iceberg combination. I don't know of any other pouch brand that has done barberry. The sourness makes it taste cool when it's 95 out. That's how this can made our July five, and it's stayed in my rotation since. It's around 12 mg and stays comfortable even if you keep it in a while. It's also a good example of how Iceberg's strange flavors are strange on purpose.

Pablo Exclusive Blue Raspberry

Blue raspberry isn't a real berry. It's an invented flavor, and both Pablo and the people who order it know that. It's tart up front and sweet at the end, with 30 mg of nicotine underneath. That puts it with the strongest pouches we sell, and it's for experienced Pablo users only. If that isn't you, skip this one.

Our picks

• Best all-around berry: VELO Berry Forest. Real fruit flavor and a cold finish, at 10 mg.
• Best for late July: Iceberg Sour Berries, at least until the weather cools off.
• Best first berry: ZYN Red Berry Fizz at 6 mg, easily.
• Best for mint people: ZYN Blueberry Mint. It's an easy way into fruit if you usually stick to mint.
• Strongest by far: Pablo Exclusive Blue Raspberry at 30 mg.

Trying them yourself

If you want to compare berries yourself, keep the strength the same and change only the flavor.
