The Candy Counter: Every Sweet-Tooth Pouch We Stock, Sorted From Safe to Sneaky

After our post on pouches that taste like drinks, I noticed we'd ended up with a similar collection of sweet flavors without planning it. The lineup is Gummy Bears, three bubblegum flavors and a strawberry cheesecake. They fall into two groups, Iceberg's at 12mg and Pablo's at 30mg, and the strength matters a lot more here than the flavor does.

Iceberg's sweet flavors (all 12mg)

Iceberg's three sweet pouches all work the same way, with a cooling menthol finish that keeps the sweetness from getting to be too much. I've called Iceberg the weirdest brand on the market, and I meant it as a compliment.

Gummy Bears tastes like a mixed bag of gummy bears: bright fruit punch up front, a little sour in the middle and sweet at the end. It's the most literal candy flavor we carry, and the most straightforward of Iceberg's three. Grape Gum puts Concord grape over a bubblegum base and finishes with Iceberg's usual menthol, so it's sweet and a little cold, about as close as a pouch gets to grape bubblegum. Strawberry Banana Gum (sold out, notify me) is more like a smoothie, with sweet strawberry, creamy banana and bubblegum underneath, plus a light cool on the finish.

All three are 12mg, which puts them with our strong pouches, and they come in a slim pouch that doesn't drip.

Pablo's two sweet cans (both 30mg)

Pablo's two sweet cans are a different story. Both are 30mg, the same extra-strong level as the cola in our drinks post, which puts them at the top of our ranking of the strongest pouches. They're just as sweet as the Iceberg cans, but much stronger.

Strawberry Cheesecake is really impressive: sweet, ripe strawberry over a creamy cheesecake base, rich at the end without getting heavy. Bubblegum is the one to watch out for. It tastes like pink bubblegum, and there's no menthol to break up the sweetness or warn you, so it hits hard and keeps going. Nothing about the taste tells you it's one of the strongest things you could put under your lip.

So the rule from the drinks post applies even more here: go by the milligrams, not the flavor. A lot of these are bubblegum

Grape Gum, Strawberry Banana Gum and Pablo's Bubblegum all have a bubblegum base, so that's three of the five sweet pouches. If you like bubblegum, you have plenty to choose from. If you don't, go for Gummy Bears (fruit punch, not gum) or Strawberry Cheesecake (dessert, not gum).

Which one to order

• Closest to actual candy: Iceberg Gummy Bears, 12mg. Fruit punch with a little sour and a cool finish.
• Bubblegum fan who wants a sensible strength: Iceberg Grape Gum, 12mg. The menthol keeps it from getting too sweet.
• A real dessert flavor at a high strength: Pablo Strawberry Cheesecake, 30mg. The flavor is excellent, but take the strength seriously.
• Strongest and sweetest: Pablo Bubblegum, 30mg. There's no cooling to warn you, so it's only for people with an established tolerance.
• If your tolerance is low: skip the 30s. Start with our beginner guide and a low strength.
