Is a 30 mg Pablo Really Five Times a 6 mg ZYN?

Pablo Exclusive is 30 mg per pouch, ZYN is 6 mg per pouch, and thirty divided by six is five. So by the nicotine listed per pouch, a Pablo Exclusive labeled at 30 mg does contain five times the stated nicotine of a ZYN labeled at 6 mg.

But the number printed on the label and the amount found when a product is independently tested aren't necessarily the same, and neither number tells you exactly how much nicotine ends up in your bloodstream.

First, the Label Math

For this comparison, the units actually match. We list Pablo Exclusive at 30 mg per pouch, and ZYN's standard 6 mg products are 6 mg per pouch. Since both numbers are per pouch, there's nothing to convert: 30 divided by 6 = 5. That's very different from comparing a product labeled in mg/g with one labeled in mg per pouch.

What the Lab Test Found

An independent lab analysis published through NicoLeaks tested Pablo Exclusive Frosted Mint. Instead of exactly 30 mg, the tested pouch measured 27.5 mg of nicotine. That gives you two Pablo numbers: the listed strength of 30 mg per pouch, and 27.5 mg per pouch for the tested sample.

Compare the measured result with a 6 mg ZYN and you get 27.5 divided by 6 = 4.58, or about 4.6 times the nicotine content. So there are two valid answers, depending on what you're comparing. Label against label, 30 mg Pablo divided by 6 mg ZYN is 5 times. Tested Pablo against labeled ZYN, 27.5 mg divided by 6 mg is about 4.6 times.

That doesn't mean Pablo's 30 mg label is fraudulent. Manufactured products vary, and one lab result describes the sample that was tested, not necessarily every pouch ever made. Still, the lab number was measured independently, which you can't say about the label.

Why "Five Times Stronger" Isn't Quite Right

Saying Pablo contains five times the labeled nicotine per pouch is mathematically precise. Saying it will feel five times stronger is a much bigger claim. The nicotine in a pouch first has to be released from the pouch and then absorbed through the oral mucosa, the lining of your mouth. That process can be affected by:

• pouch moisture
• pH
• formulation
• nicotine form
• pouch size
• release rate
• how long the pouch stays in your mouth

So a pouch with five times as much nicotine doesn't automatically produce exactly five times the blood-nicotine exposure, and how strong it feels to you is another question entirely. It's accurate to say a 30 mg Pablo "contains five times as much nicotine per pouch," but not that it "hits five times harder."

Pablo Exclusive vs Regular Pablo

There's another source of confusion: Pablo isn't one single strength. We currently split the brand into three main strength tiers: Pablo Gold at 17 mg per pouch, standard Pablo at 24 mg and Pablo Exclusive at 30 mg. A standard Pablo Ice Cold, for example, is listed at 24 mg per pouch. Against a 6 mg ZYN, the label math for that can is 24 divided by 6 = 4. So standard Pablo at 24 mg has four times the labeled nicotine per pouch of a 6 mg ZYN, and Pablo Exclusive at 30 mg, which is among the strongest pouches we sell, has five times as much.

Product Names Can Be Confusing Too

Pablo products have historically shown up online with numbers in their names that don't always match the nicotine-per-pouch figure shoppers care about. So don't go by the biggest number you see. When you compare two products, look for mg per pouch. If a product gives you mg/g instead, that's nicotine concentration, and you need the pouch weight before you can compare it directly.

What About the Entire Can?

Instead of comparing one pouch with another, you can also compare the total stated nicotine across all the pouches in a can. For any product, mg per pouch x number of pouches = total labeled nicotine in the can. A ZYN 6 mg can with 20 pouches, for example, works out to 6 mg x 20 = 120 mg.

That doesn't mean anyone absorbs 120 mg of nicotine by using the can. It only describes the total labeled nicotine across those pouches. So Is Pablo Exclusive Five Times a 6 mg ZYN?

On the label, yes. Pablo Exclusive is listed at 30 mg per pouch and a 6 mg ZYN contains 6 mg per pouch, which is exactly a 5:1 ratio in labeled nicotine. Independent testing of one Pablo Exclusive Frosted Mint sample, though, measured 27.5 mg per pouch, and using that number gives a ratio of about 4.6:1. Neither ratio means Pablo produces exactly five, or 4.6, times the nicotine exposure or the effect you feel.
