ZYN Red Fruits, Reviewed: The 9 mg Slim Nobody Talks About

Can of ZYN Red Fruits nicotine pouches

There are three ZYN cans at 9 mg and two of them are mints, so the fruit one doesn't get the attention it deserves. ZYN Red Fruits is strawberry, raspberry and rhubarb with a clean menthol finish, in a slim pouch at 9 mg, and it's the one ZYN can we sell with a public lab report you can read yourself. I recommend it more often than any fruit can except the watermelons, and until now it hadn't had its own post.

What the rhubarb adds

Most red-fruit blends are strawberry with a bit of raspberry and a lot of sugar, which covers up the fact that neither fruit holds up well in a pouch. Red Fruits adds rhubarb, and rhubarb is sour in a way sugar can't smooth over, so the pouch stays tart from the first minute to the last. Strawberry comes first, the raspberry adds depth and the rhubarb keeps it from getting too sweet.

The menthol on the finish is a gentle cool, not a freeze (our guide to the cold words on cans would put it at the light end), and that's why we list this can under both fruit and mint. It isn't a candy flavor. If that's what you want, our candy-flavor roundup covers those.

How it changes over the pouch

For the first few minutes you get strawberry with a sharp, tart edge, and then the cool comes in underneath. Around minute four the raspberry shows up and the blend settles into something that tastes like actual fruit rather than a fruit-named flavor. From about fifteen minutes on, the tartness outlasts the sweetness and the cool outlasts both, and it finishes clean. The slim format helps here. In a mini, the flavor would be done ten minutes earlier (our ZYN Mini vs Slim post explains why).

Why 9 mg is the right number for it

American ZYN only added a 9 mg with Ultra, and it's the right strength for a fruit like this. It's strong enough to be a real everyday can, but not so strong that the flavor becomes an afterthought. It's basically our case for medium strength in one can. If you use 6, this is a step up that doesn't feel like a jump. If you use 11 and want a fruit that's a bit less intense, it's a step down that still feels like something. It shares our 9 mg page with Cool Mint Slim and Spearmint Slim.

How it compares

Red Berry Fizz is the obvious comparison, though it's between shipments as I write this. The two are in the same red fruit family but taste quite different: Fizz tastes like a soda, with cranberry and a fizzy effect, and Red Fruits tastes like fresh fruit, with rhubarb and a cool finish.

Blueberry Mint at 11 is darker, sweeter and more minty. VELO Berry Forest at 10 is more blackberry, and it won our berry rankings. Red Fruits is brighter and more tart, so if you liked Berry Forest but wanted it less dark, this is the can.

The lab report

Every brand we carry has a section on our lab results page, and the ZYN entry links a Eurofins analytical report, published by NicoLeaks, for this exact flavor: the slim Red Fruits. It covers nicotine content against the label, pH, moisture and the substances people worry about. We wrote about why that page exists, and this is the can to read it for, because it's the one you can actually check.

Who should buy it

It's a good pick if you like fruit but find most fruit cans too sweet, because the rhubarb keeps the sweetness in check. If you're settled at 9, it's the only fruit among the three cans at that strength. Berry Forest fans who want the same idea but brighter should try it too. Skip it if you want a fruit pouch with no cool at all. The menthol is quiet, but it's there.

It's $9.99 a can, on our fruit pouches page, and we ship to adults 21 or over.
