Five Cans of October

These are my five cans for October, in the order you'd reach for them over a day. Last month's five were picks for the change of season. This month's are proper fall flavors.
1. ZYN Apple Mint Slim, 11 mg: the apple pick
Green apple up front, spearmint behind it, and a vanilla and coconut note underneath that sounds odd but works. Our apple comparison picked the Mini as the friendliest apple can, but for October I'd get the Slim, because the slim shape makes the apple last a lot longer. If 11 is too strong for you, the Mini at 3 or 6 is the same flavor at a lower strength.
2. ZYN Coffee Slim, 11 mg: the 3 pm can
In July a coffee flavor felt wrong. In October it's the obvious choice for the middle of the afternoon, when it's too late for another cup. It tastes like roasted coffee with chocolate under it and a nougat finish, and there's no cream. Coffee Slim is the mocha-style can that our fall rotation post moved into a regular spot, and it deserves it. On a lighter day, there's Coffee Mini at 3 or 6. If you want one with an actual cup of coffee, our post on pouches and coffee covers how to pair them.
3. White Fox Original, 12 mg: the pine mint
It's eucalyptus, pine and peppermint in a dry pouch, with a faint salty edge. Not everyone likes it (our White Fox review gets into why). Every October I think about skipping it, and every October I end up going back to Original anyway. It's not sweet and not cold the way menthol is, and it lasts a long time. If you want the same idea at a higher strength, Full Charge is 16 mg.
4. VELO Polar Mint, 8 or 14 mg: the cold mint
Polar Mint is the cleanest deep-cool mint we stock. It comes in two strengths, the 3-dot can at 8 mg and the 5-dot at 14, and the flavor is the same at both. That's the setup our VELO strength guide recommends for finding the right strength without changing anything else. The 8 is the lightest non-ZYN can in the store and one of the better ways to start with VELO.
5. Pablo Exclusive Dark Cherry, 30 mg: the evening can
Dark Cherry is ripe black cherry with hardly any sweetness, which is what our cherry comparison liked about it. It's also 30 mg, so it's only for experienced Pablo users: one pouch, after dinner. For anyone else, there's ZYN Black Cherry Mini at 6.
Off the list: watermelon
Cool Watermelon is still one of our bestsellers and probably will be until spring, because a good can is good in any month. It just doesn't fit the season anymore. I'd put it away with the tropical flavors until the first warm week of April.
October reminders
The storage rule flips. All summer the thing to avoid was heat in the glovebox (our summer storage post covers that). Now it's the heater vent. A cold car does far less damage to a can than a dashboard in July, but a can on the dash with the defroster running will dry out a fresh tin. Keep it in your pocket instead of the console, too. Cold hands and a stiff lid are how pouches end up on the floor of the car, so our post on can design and lids is worth a read this time of year.
If you're switching things up for fall, try a new flavor or a new strength, but not both in the same week. It's the same rule as in our flavor rotation post.
Quick answers
What are the best nicotine pouch flavors for fall?
Apple, coffee and piney mints work best in October. Our picks are ZYN Apple Mint Slim, ZYN Coffee Slim, White Fox Original and VELO Polar Mint, plus Pablo Exclusive Dark Cherry in the evening for experienced users.
Does cold weather hurt nicotine pouches?
Cold does far less damage than heat. In October the risk is dry indoor heat, or a can left on the dashboard with the defroster on, which dries the pouches out. Keep cans in a pocket or a drawer.
Where do the five cans live?
All five are $9.99 in our store, and the whole October set ships to adults 21 or over.
