The Mint Marathon: 26 Cans, Five Brands, One Podium

Jul 31, 2026 · Zack F
White Fox Double Mint nicotine pouch can

I promised this post three times in July, always with the same phrase: coming in August. August starts tomorrow, and I have run out of patience. Close enough. So here it is, the big one. Every pure mint pouch we stock, 26 cans across five brands, tasted against each other until a podium fell out. A marathon is 26.2 miles. Our mint wall is 26 cans deep. Two tenths short, and I am choosing to read that as destiny.

The course rules

Pure mint only. If fruit is driving and mint is just running the AC, the can is out of the race. That disqualifies Apple Mint, Cool Berry, Cool Blueberry, and Cool Watermelon. Good pouches, wrong event. They already compete on the fruit side of the store.

Second: mint is not one flavor, and I am not re-teaching the botany today. Peppermint scrubs, spearmint sweetens, menthol numbs, and words like frosted or ice usually mean a cooling agent is doing the heavy lifting rather than any actual leaf. The long versions live in the mint field guide and the cold words decoder. This post assumes you skimmed at least one of them.

Third: I refuse to rank by milligram. A 30mg can that tastes like a fire alarm is not a better mint than a 9mg can that tastes like a candy cane. And since every can in this store is $9.99, price breaks no ties either. Flavor first. Dose second.

Last disclaimer: this is one palate. Mint is the most personal argument in nicotine. Your podium may differ. Mine is correct.

Iceberg: the candy brand, behaving itself

Iceberg spends most of its catalog asking questions like: what if Gummy Bears, though. Which makes its mint bench a genuine surprise. Three cans, one Standard strength around 12mg, zero stunts. Iceberg Black is the signature and the keeper, a dark, clean, lightly sweet peppermint that tastes finished. Double Mint plays peppermint and spearmint at the same time and comes out rounder than you expect. Sweet Mint is dessert mint. If the phrase after dinner toothpaste sounds like an insult, skip it. If it sounds like a Tuesday, you two will be happy together.

Pablo: a strength ladder in a flavor trench coat

Pablo looks like it sells three mint lineups. It actually sells one mint idea at three altitudes. Gold runs Frosted Ice, Frosted Mint, and White Mint at 17mg. Original holds the middle at 24mg with Ice Cold and X Ice Cold. Exclusive repeats Frosted Ice and Frosted Mint at 30mg, the strongest thing in the store, and adds Blue Mint. Same names, different rungs, and that is quietly the most useful design in this field: pick your mint first, then pick your dose. Read the tier explainer before you order anything with Pablo on the label.

As mints, the Frosted cans are temperature first, leaf second. Not a complaint, just a diagnosis. Frosted Ice at the Gold tier is the best executed Pablo mint, because at 17mg the chill gets to perform without a 30mg uppercut shouting over it. Frosted Mint is the same weather with less sparkle. Ice Cold and X Ice Cold are blunt, cold, efficient, zero small talk. White Mint is the mildest mannered Pablo, the one I would hand a curious ZYN regular. And Blue Mint is the first of the two cans in this field I will not rebuy: a sweet blue candy note stapled to a 30mg pouch, two audiences, neither served. When I want candy, I own an entire Iceberg shelf. At 30mg, I want the mint to shut up and work.

VELO: four forecasts, and two are reruns

VELO names its mints like weather reports. We published the forecast already, so the short read: Crispy Peppermint and Peppermint Storm are both single strength cans around 10mg and, hand on heart, close enough that owning both is a rounding error. Storm is the other can I will not rebuy, not for being bad, for being a rerun of Crispy. Freezing Peppermint is the one that scales, with real 10, 14, and 17mg options. Polar Mint is the sleeper of the four: rounder, softer edges, 8mg in the 3-dot and 14mg in the 5-dot, and the VELO mint I actually finish cans of.

White Fox: mint as a personality

Five products in the store. Five mints. No fruit, no cola, nothing with cheesecake in the name. White Fox decided what it is, and what it is, is cold. Original (12mg) is the famous one, the pine forest in a pouch, herbal and faintly feral. Peppermint (12mg) is the same energy with a cleaner haircut. Double Mint (12mg) layers spearmint over peppermint in one pouch and is, I will defend this anywhere, the best mint in the store. Full Charge (16mg) is Original with the volume knob turned right. Black Edition (17mg) is the meanest thing the fox makes, and my honorable mention for face removal, because it hits like a heavyweight while still tasting like something. No other brand in this race is this good this consistently.

ZYN: the dosing chart

ZYN comes from Swedish Match, the most snus company to ever snus, and it shows: mint handled with pharmacist precision. Six pure mints, and the names ride the whole ladder. Cool Mint minis come in 1.5, 3, and 6mg; Cool Mint Slim comes in 6, 9, and 11mg. No other brand here sells the same mint at 1.5mg and at 11mg. The flavor itself is fine and knows it, and the Slim at 9mg is my everyday pick of the entire field, the white t-shirt of mint. Spearmint Slim (6, 9, or 11mg) is the best spearmint we sell, green and gently sweet with no chemical afterthought, and the Spearmint minis hold the 1.5 to 6mg rungs for lighter days. Icy Mint comes in 9.5 and 12.5mg, because ZYN measures in half milligrams, and it runs colder and sharper than Cool Mint. Menthol Ice (6.5, 11, and 13.5mg) is the only true menthol in the race: numb first, flavor second. If menthol is your lane, nothing else on this wall scratches it.

The podium

Overall winner: White Fox Double Mint. Two mints doing two jobs in one pouch, spearmint up front, peppermint underneath, 12mg right in the middle of the field. Twenty-five other cans eventually got boring during this test. This one did not.

Best spearmint: ZYN Spearmint Slim. The cleanest spearmint on the wall, and the mini version covers you from 1.5mg up.

Best everyday: ZYN Cool Mint Slim, 9mg. Unremarkable on purpose. VELO Polar Mint in the 3-dot is the softer second.

Best if you want your face removed: Pablo Exclusive Frosted Ice, 30mg. The coldest thing we sell at the highest strength we sell. Respect it.

Best entry rung: ZYN Cool Mint minis, 3mg. If you already use nicotine and are pouch curious, this is the gentle end of the wall, and the low dose roundup maps the whole shallow end.

Would not buy again: Pablo Exclusive Blue Mint. Candy sweetness and 30mg do not want the same things. And VELO can keep Peppermint Storm; Crispy already does that job.

If the podium missed you, pick in this order: plant first (peppermint, spearmint, or menthol), dose second, attitude third. The brand sorts itself out.

The short version

  • Winner: White Fox Double Mint. Both mints at once, 12mg, never boring.
  • Spearmint: ZYN Spearmint Slim.
  • Daily driver: ZYN Cool Mint Slim in 9mg.
  • Face removal: Pablo Exclusive Frosted Ice at 30mg.
  • Gentlest rung: ZYN Cool Mint minis, 1.5 or 3mg.
  • Skip: Pablo Exclusive Blue Mint, plus one of the two VELO peppermints, your choice, they are the same forecast.

That is the marathon. Twenty-six cans, five brands, one fox on the top step. The whole field lives in the mint collection if you want to run the route yourself. Pace accordingly.
